The South Summit Council of Governments was created in November 2020 with the City of Green and City of New Franklin as its founding members. The Ohio Revised Code Section 167 allows separate political entities to form Council of Governments (COG) to work in collaboration to provide a wide variety of services to the member communities at a more efficient and cost-effective manner.

The South Summit Council of Governments (SSCOG) is governed by the Chief Executives of each City with Mayor Gerard Neugebauer of Green serving as the President and Mayor Paul Adamson of New Franklin serving as Vice-President for 2021.

In the case of the SSCOG, the primary goal was to form a new regional emergency dispatch center to serve Green and New Franklin. This new center went into operation on May 11, 2021 as the South Summit Dispatch Center. In addition to dispatching for Green Fire Department and New Franklin Police and Fire Departments, we also provide fire/EMS dispatching for Clinton Village, Coventry Township and Lakemore Village on a contract basis.

The South Summit Dispatch Center is located in Green Fire Station 1 at 4200 Massillon Road. Suite 100, North Canton, Ohio 44720.

The dispatch center is overseen by a Board of Directors made up of the Fire Chief and Fire Captain of Green and the Fire and Police Chiefs of New Franklin along with a Dispatch Manager.
